The Performer

Giant Interactive Laser Harp

A monumental twelve-beam laser harp that allows visitors to perform with light. Each beam becomes an instrument, generating music and projected visuals as participants move through the work.

The Performer transforms a monumental laser installation into an instrument that can be played by anyone. Twelve audience-activated laser beams generate music and projected visuals in real time, allowing each participant to shape the work through movement, timing and gesture. Presented inside Civic Hall for White Night Ballarat 2024, the installation drew thousands of participants across generations. Children, families and older visitors did not simply watch the artwork: they stepped forward and became the performers. The work combines custom laser-harp technology, real-time media, composed sound, projection and a carefully controlled installation environment to create an immediate public experience of scale, participation and wonder.
